The Crew that Makes it Happen
Meet Our Guide Staff
We Might Know a Few Spots
There’s a fishing saying we like that goes ”we know where they live, they just have to be home”. That’s where the expertise of our guide staff comes in. The rivers of Squamish have been our home waters well before we ever guided on them. There’s a lifetime of guiding and fishing experience that goes into each day. That said, it’s no fun if you’re stuck with someone who doesn’t love what they do. If you’ve been on guided trips, you might have got tied up with a crusty old guide. This crew is getting a little older, we have the greys to prove it, but we’re far from crusty. Maybe a tad salty.
Meet Our Guides
Yos Gladstone
Yos founded Chromer Sport Fishing in 2006 and has been at the helm ever since. He often jokes that “he has to do everything around here” but that’s far from the truth. The guide team he’s put together are the real stars. Yos has a guiding calendar that mirrors the diversity of BC itself. In the spring and fall he’s on the rivers and in the summer season he guides at Langara Island Lodge on BC’s northern coast. Deeply committed to wild fish conservation and the BC fishing community, Yos sits on the board of the BC Fishing Tourism Association and is a prostaff with Simms, Islander Reels and Mustang Survival. When he’s not guiding he’s usually coaching baseball and soccer, going on adventures with his two young kids or sneaking in a nap on the couch.
Tom McHugh
Tom leads our year-round fly fishing program on the rivers of southern British Columbia and plays a major role in our fly fishing courses. With over 25 years of experience, Tom is an expert fly tier, accomplished spey caster, and deeply knowledgeable BC angler. He spends much of his time guiding on the Squamish River system and mentoring anglers who want to build confidence and skills on the water. Tom is one of our most requested guides and a cornerstone of our daily operations. Off the river, Tom enjoys time with his wife Lyn and daughter Erin, and has a well-earned reputation as Chromer’s resident mushroom-picking expert.
Pat Beahan
If you’ve fished with Pat you’ll know that good things come in small packages. There’s few guides, if any, that have the energy that Patty brings to each day. Pat guides our Squamish and Whistler fly fishing trips during the spring months. In the summer he’s on BC’s central coast guiding on the famed Dean River and in the fall he guides on the Bulkley River. Pat and Yos started guiding together in the late 90s, when they were living in Whistler and a quarter century later they’re still at it together. When Pat isn’t guiding (which isn’t often), you’ll find him mountain biking, shed hunting, chopping wood, tinkering with chainsaws or having a frosty pint.
Jon MacArthur
Jon joined Chromer Sport Fishing in 2019 and quickly became one of our most requested guides. He brings exceptional fly fishing and casting knowledge, paired with an easygoing style that instantly puts guests at ease. Sometimes his hat get a little tight when we look at our guest reviews, he’s definitely a favourite. Jon also happens to be the creative force behind much of Chromer’s visual identity, including this website. Not just a handsome face, his graphic design work shows up most places you see Chromer, including apparel, and stickers. When he’s not guiding, he’s doing dad stuff, hanging out with his dog Ace, and adding to his impressive tattoo collection.
Mike McLean
The epitome of humbleness, don’t let his young looks fool you. Mike has guided all over British Columbia and has come to settle in Squamish. With years on the Dean River, the upper stretch of the Bulkley and places in between, Mike has an incredible background in guiding salmon, trout and steelhead. He’s our go to for our fly fishing lessons, an super well-rounded casting instructor and an all around nice guy! When he’s off the river you’ll find him baking breads and setting up shop at farmer markets with his partner Meg.
Scott Baker McGarva
Ask anyone in the BC fishing community about Scotty and they’ll tell you there isn’t a guy out there with more experience than Scott. Having guided all over the province for over 30 years, Scott has guided on all the most famous steelhead rivers, including the Babine, Bulkley, Dean and Skeena. He’s also been in the tackle business and reps a ton of big brands. Home is in Squamish and we guarantee you’ll learn more than you ever thought possible after a day with Scotty.
Tommy Thomson
Some guys are just fish magnets. Tommy T is one of them, it's been said he could catch a steelhead in a puddle in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Tommy has a breadth of guiding experience, spending his springs guiding for us, then at Langara Island Lodge with Yos in the summer and then rowing the big waters of the Bulkley Canyon during the fall months. When he’s not guiding he’s snowboarding in Whistler, bow hunting, crushing the gym and trying to figure out how a computer works.
Greg Jeanes
When you click that contact button it goes right to Greg. He’s not the biggest fan of the title ‘office guy’ but we only call him that because we’d be screwed without him. Greg deals with our bookings, logistics and helps clients get booked and is happy to answer all their questions. He often guides as well and brings his firefighter background to our safety program.
Stefan Bulowski
When we run raft trips we need a shuttle driver who won’t let us down. That’s where Stef comes in, he’s there every morning to move trucks and help us with boats. He’s also always good for a few Tim Horton donuts, that morning sugar fix keeps him out of the ditches.
Elliott Brass
As hard as he tries to be #1 shuttle guy it’s just not going to happen. But that doesn’t keep him from trying and even bribing the guide staff with some freshly tied flies. If Elliott is along as your shuttle guy, be sure to asking him about his world famous pancakes on a stick.
We're Hiring.
Just kidding, no we're not.
There are plenty of great anglers out there, but we’re picky about who our clients spend the day with. Being a Chromer guide is about more than knowing your knots. It’s about how you carry yourself, how you treat people, and how good someone feels after spending a day on the water with you. No egos. Not hotshots. Just solid humans who make people feel welcome, safe, and stoked to spend a day on the water.
Think you've got what it takes? Reach out. No promises. But if you're our kind of people, you'll hear from us.

What Folks
Are Saying About Us
After 20 years, it turns out we’re pretty good at this. Hell, Trip Advisor tells us every year that we’re excellent. And while we’re proud of that, at the end of the day what matters most is what people take away from our time together. That’s why we do it.
