Fishing Style

Light Tackle Inshore Salmon

You can fish for salmon in Vancouver 365 days a year — yes, even in the middle of winter. Our local saltwater fishery offers true year-round opportunity, with prime conditions typically running from February through September. These productive waters see returns of all five species of Pacific salmon: Chinook, Coho, Chum, Pink, and Sockeye. We focus on light tackle to maximize the fight and the fun, rather than heavy gear. Depending on the season and conditions, we fish a mix of bait and artificial lures, using downriggers to precisely target salmon as they travel along the coastline. It’s hands-on, engaging fishing — trolling tight to productive shoreline structure and intercepting migrating fish as they move through Vancouver’s coastal waters.

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report

Vancouver enjoys one of the longest saltwater salmon seasons on the West Coast. You can truly fish all 12 months of the year here, with prime dates typically running from February through late September. Summer is the peak, offering outstanding opportunities for Chinook, Coho, and Pink salmon in our local waters. That said, the action doesn’t stop when the temperatures drop. December and January can produce excellent fishing for hard-fighting winter Chinook as they feed close to shore. Winter is also a fantastic time to drop traps for spot prawns and Dungeness crab, a pretty great bonus to any day on the water. The slowest stretch is usually October and November, when many salmon are migrating into local rivers. If you’re looking for the latest conditions, we’re always happy to provide an up-to-date Vancouver salmon fishing report, just drop us a line.
