Winter Fishing in Whistler

During the winter and spring months we fish primarily for winter-run steelhead that are moving into the Squamish River system south of Whistler. This is a great time for fishing, the rivers see very little pressure and anglers have a chance at wild sea-run steelhead up to 20 pounds.  There is also a very healthy population of native bull trout in local rivers. If you’re visiting Whistler for a ski holiday, this is your chance to enjoy a relaxing day of guided flyfishing. Whistler winter fishing is best in from late February to early May, when migrating steelhead are in local rivers.

Summer Fishing in Whistler

There are lots of flyfishing options in Whistler during the summer months. Home to meandering rivers and emerald lakes the Whistler area is host to great trout fishing through the comfortably warm summer. Early summer (June and July) the fishing is primarily on alpine lakes are rivers levels remain high due to snow melt. Starting in August through late September we fish local rivers for rainbow trout, bull trout and sometimes salmon. A summer favourite is the Birkenhead River, a gorgeous wild mountain river home to stunning wild rainbow trout who love dry flies.

Fall Salmon Fishing in Whistler

In the months of October and November youʼll find fantastic river fishing for salmon. Several species of Pacific salmon, including chum salmon and coho salmon return to area rivers each fall. This is a beautiful time of year to come visit as the vibrant fall colors play background to spectacular salmon fishing on the fly. With multiple hook-ups daily there is no chance of getting bored fishing this time of year.
