- When is the best time to go saltwater salmon fishing in BC?
-
- May & June
- Salmon fishing lodges on BC's north coast and Queen Charlotte Islands usually open in late May or early June. This is because salmon come off the open Pacific Ocean during this time for their migration down the coast. Early season salmon feed aggressively and are often called 'green' as they are fresh off the open ocean!
- June & July
- Salmon fishing lodges on BC's central coast and Vancouver Island usually open in late June or early July. By this time the migrating salmon have made it further south on BC's coast.
- July & August
- This is prime-time for saltwater salmon fishing in BC. Chinook (king) and coho (silver) salmon are feeding heavily, the weather on the coast is usually beautiful, the days are long and fishing is hot.
- September
- September is still a great time for salmon fishing. The weather is still warm and sunny and the fishing is very consistent. Some of the larger chinook (king) salmon have moved through but coho (silver) salmon fishing is in its peak. The saltwater salmon fishing season in British Columbia starts winding down in mid to late September as this is when most of the salmon start moving into our rivers to spawn.
- What about halibut fishing and bottom fishing?
-
All the lodges and packages we represent also include halibut fishing and bottom fishing.
- Halibut Fishing

- Halibut fishing in British Columbia is best on the west coast of Vancouver Island, the north tip of Vancouver Island, BC's north coast and in the Queen Charlotte Islands. Every year there are halibut taken that weigh over 300 pounds in BC. We aim to educate all our guests about fishing conservation and recommend the release of large halibut when caught. These larger halibut are almost always reproducing females that are vital for future stocks. The 20 - 40 pound halibut are a way better tasting fishing, contain less contaminants and will still give you plenty of nice meat to take home.
- Bottom Fishing

- Bottom fishing in British Columbia is great all up and down the coast. Most saltwater anglers target ling cod and yellow-eyed rock fish but there are many other bottom dwelling fish to catch while fishing in BC. Like with large halibut, we encourage our guests to remember conservation when fishing our waters. Take only what you can eat and remember that larger bottom fish may be as old as 70 years of age.
