What to Expect on a Bulkley River Steelhead Trip

Fly direct from Vancouver to Smithers where a Chromer Sport Fishing host or lodge guide will be at the airport to pick you up. A short drive along the Bulkley River will have to the lodge and getting checked in. Unpack your waders, put your gear together because its about time to experience steelhead fishing on the Bulkley River. For the next 6 days you'll be drifting the Bulkley, fishing with the most experienced guides on the river. It will be a few hours into your first day, when you step into the gentle flow of the Bulkley River, and realize you're stepping into one of the most famous and prolific steelhead rivers in the world. Simply put, the Bulkley River represents the ultimate Canadian steelhead experience. Each year the Bulkley River is home to thousands of returning steelhead and this scenic catch and release fishery is yours to enjoy during the entirety of your trip. Your friendly hosts will make sure accommodations are perfect for you and the kitchen creates wonderful west coast cuisine.

Steelhead on the Dry Fly

The Bulkley is one of the premier rivers in the world, and its dry fly steelhead fishing is the finest in British Columbia. Many anglers dream of having a wild steelhead rise to a dry fly, well this is the place to do it. Not all rivers with steelhead runs have fish that will rise to a dry fly but the Bulkley River is different and the early season of August and September lend themselves well to a chance at a dry fly caught steelhead.

Lodge & Accommodations

The lodge is located just outside of Smithers, only steps away from the majestic Bulkley River. Its large lounge and dining room have a comfortable and warm atmosphere, the perfect spot to trade fish stories at a day's end. A limited capacity of only eight guests at a time ensures an intimate environment and personalized service. The rooms are private, shared by two anglers, with in-room shower facilities, and comfortable beds & linens. A cooked to order breakfast is served each morning and a hearty lunch is served on the river each day. After a full day of fishing, enjoy our sauna, a hot shower, and relax in the lounge around the open bar. A gourmet dinner served with wine and beer will finish up a perfect Bulkley River day.

Experience is the key when it comes to successful steelhead fishing and our Bulkley River guides have plenty of it. They spend countless days drifting the Bulkley and are passionate about what they do. They can keep the most experience anglers challenged while introducing new anglers to the joys of British Columbia steelhead fishing. Daily schedules are flexible. If you want to wake up at first light and fish until dark, our eager guides will gladly accommodate. Each day you will drift different sections of the Bulkley River, fishing several runs and competent anglers can expect multiple steelhead hook ups daily.

The Exclusive Remote River Camps

Our Bulkley River Steelhead Packages are the only packages on the Bulkley River that offers guests access to remote river camps. These camps are located on remote sections of the Bulkley River and allows for access to water that few people ever fish. The camps are equipped with very comfortable, heated, canvas, wall-style, tents raised on wooden decks. They are located at approximately the midpoint of two spectacular 20 plus mile float trips. These float trips are optional but come highly recommended. You and your guide will have many miles of river all to yourselves.
